Star Chaser
Star Chaser was a digital painting that I made for my undergraduate senior exhibition. I used Blender to create the stars and Star Chaser herself, and painted the background in Clip Studio Paint.
Star Chaser is a constellation that is in danger of disappearing. To save herself, she begins to cannibalize other stars to recover her celestial presence.
I really enjoy the look of those old 1950s illustrative posters, especially the pin-up ones. There is something about the style that I really enjoy. Unfortunately, quite a few tend to be rather sexist, so I love to put a different spin on it. What if the woman was more than just an image and had a story behind her? I also think there is a lot to be said about drawing for the female gaze rather than just the male.

Invitation
Our exhibition was titled "Windows: A Collective Effort", a joke on the fact that all of us struggled to create windows in matte boards for mounting and framing our artwork.
Because of this, we had the idea to create different "Windows" featuring our artwork as advertising. These were put on posters and invitations that we would send to people.
Featured here is Star Chaser, casually and perhaps contemplatively munching on a star as she gazes through a window.
The window itself was drawn on paper with pen and then coloured digitally in Clip Studio Paint. I also used Clip to paint the background and add the stardust dripping from her mouth. Star Chaser of course as well as the star she chews on were made in Blender.
Whether it was the long planning process or just how fun this concept was to me to bring to life, Star Chaser is definitely one of my favourite pieces that I've made.

Planning Sketches!
Here is a collection of the pre-planning behind Star Chaser.
There were many decisions to make: what hair style I wanted, what colour of hair, what the outfit should look like, including the pose I wanted her to be in. It was hard choosing just one!
Warning, there is some minimal nudity, but it is just the depiction of the 3D model.
