Cave Nymph

The "Cave Nymph" was painted on masonite board for my undergraduate senior exhibition. I sketched and cut out a piece of masonite for the nymph herself and glued and nailed it onto the larger masonite board that serves as the background. After applying a layer (or three) of gesso, I began painting.

The Cave Nymph represents earthly beings, the land and water themselves, being affected by the dangers of human pollution. In her hands she is seen holding water from the cave, which has created a rash that is creeping up her arms. Her expression is sneering, accusatory.
